Almeida Featured By The Smithsonian Magazine

Cleveland, TN – A college professor and photographer living in southeast Tennessee has been featured by the Smithsonian Magazine’s website. Dr. Luis Almeida’s “Fantasy Photoshoot” photograph has been chosen to be the collection “Altered”’s cover photo in mid October. Almeida’s work is being featured along side award winning photographs from the competition’s previous years in the Altered category.

“The Smithsonian Magazine has been very kind to highlight my work in its “Altered Collection” category in this years’s competition. It’s an honor to be featured on their website,” says Almeida.

“The image is of my wife, a few weeks after she received a certification in makeup artistry. She was creating this look, hidden from me in the bathroom. When she came out, my inspiration hit,” Says Almeida.

“Doc, you have talent and skill in one fingernail than I will ever possess” says Brad Smith on-set photographer for the movies, “Malicious,” “The neighbor,” and “Assimilate” starring Josh Stewart and Deroy Lindo.

The 2019 Smithsonian Photo Competition is open for photographers’ submission until November 30 of this year in a number of categories including Altered Images, Travel, People, The American Experience, Natural World, and Mobile. Finalists will be announced in early Spring 2020.

Almeida is an Associate Professor of Communication Arts, earned his bachelors degree from Slippery Rock University, a masters degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a PhD from Penn State University.
