One of the most important God’s commands that a Christian must learn is the call to be submissive to God’s scripture. God calls us to be quiet in the Hebrew Bible in a multitude of places including in the old book of proverbs. “Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.” Proverbs 11:12.
In fact, there are tons of instructions in the Bible calling for us to be quiet and refrain from talking which means that the Lord wants us to keep our mouths shut much more often than the alternative. Be cautious every time you open your mouth to talk. Only speak the necessary.
“When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” Proverbs 10:19. “Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.“ Psalm 4:4. “And to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you.” 1 Thessalonians 4:11
Ladies and gents, being silent is perhaps the most important lesson that I’ve learned my my adult life. When you choose to be quiet, you have time to better analyze your environment, discern whether or not others like or dislike you, and among other benefits, being quiet allows the Lord to give you the blessings that you deserve in His own time if you choose to allow Him to work through you for the expansion of His kingdom.
Human beings are evil. They often hate others for what they don’t or can’t have. Much envy you will experience in your lifetime if you make the choice to talk too much! Learn to keep your mouth shut. “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Matthew 7:21-23.
Be a man or women of character who values the teachings and guidance given by Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that things are possible. Please keep your mouth shut.
